Feldis Garden City 1967 Geraniums and annuals grown in Feldis greenhouse are ready to plant. In the 1960's Feldis would open the sides of the greenhouse to Franklin St enabling customers to walk right in.
Petunias and zinnias in full bloom. The east side of #4 greenhouse was sunken below ground creating an excellent growing environment. Gloxinias growing in the Hempstead greenhouses
circa 1960. We grew gloxinia in clay pots under shade cloth to prevent sunburn on the sensitive leaves.
Snapdragons growing in #4 greenhouse were cut fresh every morning. Freshest flowers anywhere. Feldis Florist's greenhouses were loaded with flowers and plants all year long.
Chrysanthemums growing in Hempstead. The black cloth is used to control the flowering. Buy covering the plants with black cloth at 4 pm everyday we tricked the plants into flower early.
Turning on lights above the chrysanthemums in the evening delays blooming. Chrysanthemums for cut flowers grow very tall and need support. We would build wooden frames and run wires to support their tall stems. Fields of flowers at Feldis Florist
